Sustainable Mountain Trails and Ecotourism in Arcadia: Protection and Development

We are pleased to invite you to the 4th Greek International Conference Sustainable Mountain Trails and Ecotourism in Arcadia: Protection and Development, organized by the Municipality of Tripolis within the framework of the PRO.GRE.S.S. project (CERV program).

The event will take place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 6:00-7:30 pm. Greece Time, live at the Malliaropoulio Theater in Tripoli as well as online via ZOOM.

This conference has a dual purpose. Firstly, to showcase environmental actions, ecotourism opportunities, and sustainable practices implemented in Arcadia, with a focus on Mount Mainalo and local mountain trails. Secondly, to raise public awareness about the area’s natural advantages and present initiatives that protect and enhance our natural resources.

The conference will provide a comprehensive overview of the Municipality of Tripolis’ activities, while also offering an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and inspiration among participants.

  • 18:15 – “Network of Mountain Hiking Trails on Mount Mainalo: A Lever for Protection and Eco-development,” Athanasios Chomatas, Civil Engineer and former president of SAOO (Association of Arcadian Mountaineers and Ecologists)
  • 18:30 – “Mountain Natural Capital in the Tourism Economy – The Path to Sustainable Development,” George Panagiotopoulos, representative of EOS Tripolis for environmental and sustainable development issues and coordinator of the Mainalo Protection and Development Authority
  • 18:45 – “Ecotourism and Mild Outdoor Recreational Activities in Arcadia,” George Karagiannis, President of KOINSEP 5ENTE and Mountain Guide
  • 19:00 – “Menalon Trail: The first Greek trail certified by the European Ramblers Association, a model of sustainable mountain development,” Ioannis P. Lagos, President of Mainalo Social Cooperative Enterprise, Creator and Coordinator of the Menalon Trail
