“The Memory of the Places: step by step. Knowing the past to understand the present and building a sustainable future. Moving between intangible heritage and natural beauty in the Riserva Naturale Selva del Lamone” International Conference, co-organised by Arci Solidarietà Viterbo srl Impresa Sociale, Riserva Naturale Riserva del Lamone and Farnese Municipality (Vt), as part of the PRO.GRE.S.S. project (CERV programme).
This time we will address the issue of climate change and the actions that can be taken at a local level to mitigate their effects, through the exploration of the intertwining between the local heritage and small scale practices of sustainable tourism.
In an increasingly interconnected world, it is essential to explore approaches that preserve the environment, promoting a responsible travel culture, supporting economic, social and environmental relationships involving small businesses, local products and promoting the economy of sharing.
The sustainable tourism encourages us to think about our travel choices, promoting practices with the aim to minimize the environmental impact and maximize the benefits for populations linked to a specific territory, encouraging to explore the places in a deeper way and enjoying the genius loci.
During the conference we will also examine the deep link between the knowledge of the places and their care, with key actions which can contribute in a small scale to mitigate the climate change.
The knowledge of the places is not only a mean to enjoy the beauty of an area, but it also represents an essential step for the environmental consciousness.
The local communities, through a thorough understanding of their own territory, hopefully become their natural guardians. Taking care of the places is an act of responsibility and the link between knowledge and care is a powerful tool to face environmental and global changes at a local level.
Within this framework, we hope that this conference will provide significant insights for a meaningful dialogue about the way of implementing good practices collectively, giving a contribution to realize virtuous circles which give attention to the local cultural heritage and to the environment, for a sustainable and vibrant future in the inland areas.
