ECILPE develop action in The Great Sites of France, labeled or planned have in common that they are sites classified under the law of May 2, 1930 on “the protection of natural monuments and sites of artistic, historical, scientific, legendary or picturesque character”, for a significant part of their territory. The Grand Site of Conca d’Oru, vineyard of Patrimonio – Gulf of Saint-Florent is a territory labeled
“Grand Site de France” in March 2017, for a period of 6 years. It extends over the municipalities of Barbaggio, Farinole, Oletta, Patrimonio, Poggio d’Oletta and Saint-Florent, thus covering 5,859 hectares. It includes 1 classified site, 2 registered sites, 3 Natura 2000 sites, 9 historical monuments. Its role is mainly to preserve and enhance what is known as the “spirit of the place” of the Grand Site. The spirit of the place is based on the emotion generated by the grandiose and close views of singular landscapes formed in particular by the mineral power of the schistose massif and the limestone ridge which, together, structure the territory in the shape of a conch and open windows on the sea as on the mountain. This geology has given rise to a rich but sensitive plant diversity. For all these reasons, the territory has long been the subject of various protection systems. Etudes Et Chantiers Ile Initiatives Locales Pour L’emploi (Fr) since may 2023 participated at all progress project activities and is active in the consortium process.

Consell de Mallorca (ES)

is a supra municipal public entity with government and administrative functions that rules the island of Mallorca. The Sustainability and Environment Department develops actions and measures linked to sustainable development and environment preservation at the insular level. One of the working lines is the preservation and promotion of the natural, rural and marine environment of the island. Considering these competences, the Department manages natural areas and public estates owned by Consell de Mallorca, plans and implements environmental education activities and offers vocational training on skills related to the natural and cultural heritage of rural and mountain areas. The natural areas and public estates owned and managed by the Consell de Mallorca are around 1300 ha and they are located in rural and mountainous areas of the island of Mallorca. It also co-manages the natural park of Sa Dragonera, declared as such in 1995. This natural park includes the island of Sa Dragonera (271 ha), acquired by the Consell de Mallorca in 1988, and the public islets of Sa Mitjana (0,29 ha) and Es Pantaleu (2,39 ha). The Department of Sustainability and Environment works to protect rural and natural areas, taking into account its natural and cultural heritage as an indivisible whole to ensure its preservation. From this perspective, active forms of experiencing nature and cultural heritage are upheld especially by: recovering old trades linked to traditional farming and forestry by vocational training addressed to adults; offering educational activities to introduce citizens in general and scholars to the natural and cultural heritage; offering long and short distance hiking routes and family routes to discover the heritage of natural and rural areas of Mallorca. These forms of experiencing need not only the involvement of public and private stakeholders but also of the local community. The active participation of locals is proving essential to transfer their knowledge of the territory and their skills to preserve nature and cultural landscape.

Municipality of Tripolis (GR)

Tripolis is the capital of Arcadia in the Region of Peloponnese, Southern Greece. Its key location; its natural resources; its rich cultural and historical heritage; and its technical and administrative expertise make it ideal to make business, to become a partner, and to collaborate with on the national and international level. The Municipality of Tripolis, with the support of its Planning and Development Department and its close cooperation with the University of Peloponnese, is highly experienced in the management and implementation of funded projects on the regional, national, and European level and has got unlimited access to technical and administrative consulting and expertise. The Municipality of Tripolis aims to strengthen and increase its participation in funded projects according to its strategic plan which consists of, but is not limited to, the areas of infrastructure, services, economy, employment, culture, environment, mobility, education etc. Natural and Demographic characteristics Tripolis occupies a territory of 1,481 km2 with an altitude of 650m, while its population amounts to 47.000 inhabitants. It is surrounded by mountains with Mount Mainalon to the northwest being the tallest one. The southwest part of the city consists of farmlands which once used to be wetlands. This particular environmental duality of the city results in hot and dry summers on the one hand and cold winters on the other. Tripolis is rural with dense forests and fertile ground. Access to the city is easy thanks to its state-of-the-art road network which links it to other cities of Peloponnese such as Nafplio, Kalamata, Corinth and Patras. Kalamata airport (KLX) is only 75 km away, while Athens international airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) is 190 km away. History and Culture Based on ancient Greek traveller and geographer Pausanias’ reference on the region’s three ancient cities of Tegea, Mantineia and Pallantium, modern historians conclude that Tripolis means three (tri) cities (polis). It is in modern history, though, that Tripolis was in the spotlight. First, it was one of the Ottoman administrative centres of Peloponnese (“pashalik of Tripolitsa ”) prior to the Greek Revolution (1821-1827). Then, it was the stronghold of the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman empire with Theodoros Kolokotronis being one of its most renowned leaders. His statue overlooks the central Areos square of the city. Finally, following the establishment of the Kingdom of Greece in 1830, Tripolis became the capital of the district of Arcadia rendering administrational, economic, commercial and transportation services. Associations, such as orchestras, choirs, fine arts groups, theatrical groups, and traditional dancing groups, which participate in events and festivals on the local, national and international level upon invitation, are only a specimen of the city’s rich cultural life and tradition. Tripolis boasts beautiful monuments of historical and religious value such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Courthouse, the Malliaropouleion Theatre, the Archaeological Museum, the War Museum and various monasteries of Byzantine architecture. With an active population of almost 45% and unemployment at 27% of the total population (2014), citizens of Tripolis are employed in the tertiary sector (72%), secondary sector (22%) and primary sector (6%). Social and economic growth is inhibited due to brain drain, high rates of unemployment as a result of the economic crisis, and the challenging production conditions in the agricultural sector. Action plan and objectives The main objectives of the Municipality of Tripolis is to protect the natural characteristics of the area and to secure the citizens’ quality of life. To that end, the action plan aims at strengthening the local economy; creating jobs; developing the agricultural sector; taking environmentally friendly touristic initiatives; putting forth social cohesion; and promoting the cultural and historical heritage. In particular, the Municipality of Tripolis works towards the 20% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2020; protects and manages the forests with special focus on “Natura 2000” areas; promotes synergies between rural and urban regions; enhances job creation in the agricultural and touristic sector; implements educational and cultural programmes for the youth; seeks to modernise and improve the ICT sector and technical infrastructure; and welcomes partnerships and cooperations to further explore and implement fresh and innovative ideas and initiatives.
